This hymn always seemed to be about farming or Thanksgiving. It's actually a soul winner's hymn. But it also has a good message for christian parents, whose job is to train their children in the way they should go, to persevere.
So much of parenting, which is a privilege and blessing, is teaching and doing the same thing over and over and over, in the midst of learning on the job, being tired or impatient, struggling with our own growth in the Lord (or lack). We need to keep our purpose before us and remember what it's all about. It all works together for good to those who love God.
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Psalm 126:5
And let us not be weary in well doing:
for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Galatians 6:9
Bringing in the Sheaves
Knowles Shaw
Sowing in the morning,
sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide
Sowing in the noontide
and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest,
Waiting for the harvest,
and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing,
We shall come rejoicing,
bringing in the sheaves.
Refrain:
Bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves,
bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing,
We shall come rejoicing,
bringing in the sheaves;
Bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves,
bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing,
We shall come rejoicing,
bringing in the sheaves.
Sowing in the sunshine,
sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds
Fearing neither clouds
nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest,
By and by the harvest,
and the labor ended,
We shall come rejoicing,
We shall come rejoicing,
bringing in the sheaves.
Going forth with weeping,
sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained
Though the loss sustained
our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping’s over,
When our weeping’s over,
He will bid us welcome,
We shall come rejoicing,
We shall come rejoicing,
bringing in the sheaves.
